Peace, Baby

The other day I wanted to write, so I pulled a card, and I got Peace Offering.

I thought, meh… whatever… not working for me. I'll shuffle again.

This time I decided to cut the deck rather than just pull from the top, because, you know, why not?

So, I shuffled...

cut the deck...

put the top half to the side (but flipped it upside for some reason) ...

and saw the Peace Offering card staring at me...

again.

Okay, universe, verrryyy funny.

Now, let’s pull the top card from the cut side.

Choose Peace was the card.

A L R I G H T .

I AM AT PEACE, DAMN IT. (lol)

So, I opened the book to dive into the meanings to see if anything resonated.

REWIND.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I was just on a cruise for my friend’s 30th birthday.

He went to all of us and asked,

"If you could give your 30-year-old self any advice, what would it be?"

I know I’m just 33 years old, but the advice I gave him was:

Do every single thing you want to do, and don’t make excuses as to why you shouldn’t.

Why this the advice?

I got the basis of this advice from one of my old roommates. It was probably one of my favorite pieces of general life advice that I try to take with me every day. She would say:

"Don’t do anything you don’t want to do."

I know that may come off vague to some, but really think about it.

How many times a week, or day, do we say, “ugh, I don’t want to do that.

Then whyyyy do we do it?

I realize there may be some things in life we have to do that we don’t want to, and that’s why I altered the advice.

Do every single thing you want to do, and don’t make excuses as to why you shouldn’t.

  1. It keeps you focused on the positive (focusing on the things you want vs the things you don’t want)

  2. It holds you responsible for always accomplishing the things you want to do

Okay, Aly, but what does this have to do with the peace cards you pulled.

I'll tell you.

I’ve done a lot and been a part of a lot of things in life, and it was solely based on be choosing to do the things I want to do, and not making excuses as to why I can’t.

  1. I moved from San Diego to Chicago - how? I wanted to, and I MADE. IT. HAPPEN.

  2. I’ve gotten out of bad relationships that I thought would be impossible - how? I decided my peace and happiness was more important than the struggle of forcing something (Insert my husband flowing in here)

  3. I went from working for someone I couldn’t stand and wholeheartedly disagreed with their views on life to then changing my career and starting from the bottom - how? I decided my inner peace was worth more than their intimidation of needing them to succeed

  4. I went from going back to school and working at a salon front desk and living off pennies to then owning my own business right on Michigan Avenue in Chicago - how? I decided to follow each inspired action the universe gave me to follow my dreams

  5. I made the move from Chicago to Florida in two weeks - how? I made it clear to the universe my husband and I needed a new environment that fit our way of life (sun, beach and slower pace) better than Chicago, and the doors opened easily and quickly for it to happen

All of these different "happenings" in my life taught me that following my own desires of doing what I want to do at every stage in my life has brought me complete peace in knowing I’m doing life exactly the way I want.

My hope is that by reading this blog, all of you are finding the courage and the guidance to create the life you most desire and letting that journey guide you to your inner peace.
